Bicycle with Flowers is photograph I captured early in 2006 while on Nantucket for my birthday which coincided with Nantucket’s annual Daffodil Festival. The height of the Daffodil Festival for me is the parade of vintage automobiles that are decked out with daffodils, streamers and whatever else tickles their owner’s fancies. After the parade the automobiles fill up Nantucket’s Main Street allowing the locals and tourists alike to get a closer look.

“Tonkin of Nantucket”, one of the island’s antique stores has (of course) an antique bicycle that they decorate with daffodils and exhibit in front of the store. It makes for an excellent photographic opportunity.

The beautiful bricked sidewalks and old buildings of Nantucket make a fitting foreground and backdrop for the image of the antique bicycle and brilliant flowers. I had to way a long time to capture this photograph as the town was filled with people. Patience paid off.
